The AMI Education Academic Board oversees the development and quality assurance of programs at AMI Education.

AMI Education aims to deliver programs that are current and relevant to industry. Experienced academics and professionals who possess the relevant academic, discipline-based expertise and professional knowledge sit on our Academic Board. They provide the independence to promote the academic quality of our programs, facilitate governance of academic processes and advise the Directors on the future strategic development of the educational activities of AMI Education.

Operations of the Board

The Academic Board of AMI Education is responsible for all academic programs and courses of study at AMI Education. The Academic Board has three main functions:

(1) the provision of academic oversight of the development of new curricula, programs, pedagogy and the maintenance of academic quality within AMI Education;

(2) the granting of awards to students of AMI Education;

(3) the formation of a coherent and rigorous academic and educational strategy for the future development of AMI Education including the development of new courses and programs.

The Board is an independent body within AMI Education and provides advice to the Executive committee (Exco) on the conduct and content of prescribed academic programs and courses of study of AMI. The Board determines the awarding of degrees, diplomas, certificates and other awards.

The Board creates awareness of and provides leadership in relation to, contemporary educational issues by;

  • Establishing a quality assurance framework for learning, teaching, curriculum development and research.
  • Recommending and reporting to the Exco on:
  • learning, teaching and emerging pedagogies
  • the scholarship of professional practice and applied research
  • Providing a strong strategic educational focus to position AMI at the forefront of education practice
  • Initiating curriculum and educational innovation in AMI
  • Ensuring discursive debate and discussion on educational policy and practice

DUTIES AND POWERS OF THE BOARD

The Board will ensure a major review of all courses is conducted at least once every three years and will monitor all courses each year through an agreed set of performance indicators.

The Board will approve the academic aspects of all documentation for submission for external accreditation and/or audit agencies.

The Board will be accountable for the development and review of academic quality assurance measures, and for ensuring compliance with its policies and procedure.

The Board will consider semester course reports from all AMI Education course committees.

The Board will approve all awards proposed by course committees.

The Board will report the outcomes of all reviews and propose actions to the The Board of Directors or nominated committee.

The Board will advise on the implementation of continuous improvement and national and international benchmarking.

The Board has an important role in the development of policies that promote possible applied research opportunities, and particularly professional practice research, in AMI Education.

The Board has an over-arching responsibility to ensure that all programs, wherever delivered, will be of comparable standards to those delivered at AMI Education’s premises.

BOARD ELECTIONS

The Board elects a Chair from its membership every two years.

  • The size and composition of the Board will facilitate governance of academic processes(2) and the future strategic development of the educational activities of AMI Education. The Board will strive to achieve gender equity and include at least one of each gender.
  • Members of the Academic Board will be appointed for a period of two (2) years; the student member will be appointed on an annual basis. Members are eligible for re-appointment at the expiry of their terms of office.

FREQUENCY OF MEETING AND QUORACY

Ordinary Meetings

1. The Board will meet at least four (4) times a year and the quorum for meeting of the Board is 50%

2. The Chair will convene all meetings.

3. The date(s) and time of the meeting for each year will be established at the first meeting of each calendar year.

4. Motions can be proposed and deliberated on by electronic or other written communication.

Special Meetings

The Chair may at any time convene a special meeting. The Board of Directors or nominated committee can also request a special meeting which will not normally be refused. A special meeting will also be arranged if a majority of members indicate in writing a request for a special meeting.
